Argus Argoflex EF
Argus Argoflex EF
Acquired in the early part of 2011, this all-metal version of the Argoflex EF has produced only one roll of film for me so far (writing as of 10/11). I have recently purchased a flash attachment (which is what the "F" in "EF" stands for), but it hasn't yet arrived.

It was produced by the Argus Co. between 1948-1951. Unlike the Argus Forty also featured at this site, it actually focuses through the viewfinder's ground glass. Shutter release is a lever on the right of the taking lens. Some of these models were either originally designed, or later modified. to take either 120 or 620, but mine has a label in the upper film chamber that warns me to use 620 film only.

This first set of photos shot with it comes from a roll of French-made Lumiere Altipan 21 620 film, with an expiration date of "Fev 1964". I developed it in Caffenol-C for 13 minutes at 20 deg. C.

October 2011: A recent purchase on eBay has produced the aforementioned dedicated flash for this unit, and it actually works! Both connection points, on the camera and the flash, had some tarnish, but a little work with a pencil eraser made them shiny, and there was a very satisfying burst of light when I clicked the shutter.

Flash Test, Oct. 2011: The interior room pics, followed by the images of Boss's Day 2011 (top of p. 2), were all shot with the flash attachment. I used No. 5 and No. 25B (for blue) Press Flash Bulbs. Shutter speed was 1/50 in most cases, aperture various. Dem's some bright bulbs, yassuh. Film is 1960s-vintage Agfa Isopan ISS 620 film, dev. in Ansco Permadol 1:1 for 8 min. @ 20C.
