Argus C-3
Argus C-3
This camera is the only one in my collection for which I know the pedigree: it was originally a high school graduation gift for my father-in-law in 1953! He gave it to me in 2002, and I've used it to great success many times since.

There is plenty of information about the C-3 out there, and my space is limited here, so I'll say only that this "brick" is one of the favorites of my collection, and not only because of its legacy status.

March 2009: Starting with the 4th image here, you see samples of Arista EDU 400 film, which I developed myself (a relatively new thing for me). I metered every image with a Gossen Luna-Pro (also a new thing) as a test of both the film and the meter. You be the judge, but I think I did OK.

May 2009: Starting with the first color photo below, this is an experiment in available light -- a stairwell in the building where I work. I shot on 200-speed Ferrania ("Kroger" branded) film at various slow speeds and shifted between f/3.5 and f/4. I love this camera for what it can do!

August 2011: [starting at bottom of page 2] On the 11th of this month, "World Argus Day" was celebrated, wherein anyone who owns an Argus-branded camera shoots it and posts it on the internet. It's also called Argust 11, 2011, which certainly allows the proceedings to be fun and frolicsome. This year was my first to participate, having been poorly notified, or having forgotten, in previous years. The Argus C-3 was the camera of choice: I shot Ultrafine + 100, using a 100mm lens, and took advantage of the higher shutter speeds and smaller apertures, to see what I'd get on such a sunny day. Developed in D-76 1:1 for 8.5 min. at 20C, things came out somewhat grainy, but that may have been partly the scan from the lab.
