No. 2A Cartridge Premo
No. 2A Cartridge Premo

In Eastman Kodak's early days, competition with other camera manufacturers was fierce, but George E. had a plan. Ever heard of the Hawk-Eye? The Premo? No? That's because Kodak bought 'em and phased 'em out.

This beauty is the No. 2A Cartridge Premo, originally manufactured by the Rochester Optical Co., but once Kodak bought that company, the Premos didn't have long to live (although this one was actually made under the Kodak name). Note the unusual side-loading feature, and the nifty round unlocking button behind the film winder. The original leather handle was shredded at the ends, so I attached it to a new one made of rubber.

At the time of this writing (March 2009) I haven't yet shot with this camera. It takes 116 film and will need a conversion similar to the other 116s in my collection in order to use it..

February 2010: In the interests of reducing my collection I have sold this camera to another collector.
